  What is Long QT Syndrome ? { LQT'S}

  1. LQT'S is a disturbance of the heart electrical system, causing an abnormality of the heartbeat,

or rhythm of the heart.

  2. Because of the heart abnormality, this can cause fainting, seizures, shortness of breath, rapid heart beat.

  3. Getting startled, emotional excitement, distress, physical activity, taking the wrong medications, and just sleeping results in Sudden Cardiac Death. For more information on the drugs you shouldn't take with Long QT click the link .


  4. How do you get Long Qt ? LQT'S is only heritedity, if one parent has Long QT you stand a 50/50 chance of inheriting LQT'S

  5. How is it diagnosed ? A simple ECG or EKG can detect Long QT Syndrome. However to diagnose LQT'S the heart must be beating, it can't be found in an autopsy.

  6 .How is it treated ? Medications called Beta- Blockers are as effective as 90%, In some case a Pacemaker or Automatic Defibrillator is used.
